BRIEF / PROMPT
Design a book of a topic of your choice using content from Wikipedia. Design a typographic system, use InDesign tools to efficiently create and organize the file for a multi-page format book print file, and use visual language to express the content. Designs must be black and white and up to one additional color. Choose an appropriate booklet size depending on your topic of choice. Make the overall design of the booklet cohesive and systematic.
MY WORK
I chose the topic K-pop and specifically the popular group BTS in a 8.5x11 inch magazine format as it matched with my interests and had lots of design potential. The magazine format allows for multiple issues to be released on different K-pop groups, and the name "Lovers' Club Magazine" is a reference to who the magazine is designed for; the fans of the K-pop groups.

RESEARCH + BRAINSTORMING
Many K-pop album designs have used more experimental typography and brutalist design to stand out from more traditional album designs. The design work of these albums are the main selling point as most people stream online rather than use the album's CD, so K-pop fans are highly responsive to well designed products, especially with the use of experimental typography, which is trending. Purchasing magazines of K-pop groups is also highly popular, making the format, style, and target audience of Lovers' Club Magazine highly compatible.
BRANDING + FINAL PRODUCT
Following the market research, I decided to design Lovers' Club Magazine using experimental typography for all the graphics. The limited color palette further emphasized the typographic work and the color "Superstar Yellow" (#EFFE00) matches the branding of BTS' company, Big Hit Music, while providing good contrast and an easily recognizable brand identity. The final product is a magazine that is not only visually appealing, but also plays on trends seen in K-pop album designs that make good posters and other merchandise.
